How do I score a dance festival?
In the end, this is a personal and subjective criteria that I selected for what I can put down in writing but for the best dance festival (s), there are some feelings and some vibes that you get that just bump the score or take it down so remember to take it with a grain of salt and don’t think of my opinion as an absolute
Categories(ordered by importance)
- Social dance level: my personal take on the festival as a SBK dancer mainly leader
- Vibes: Special criteria for all these feelings that are really hard to put into words or in a category but really are the ones that make the difference between a normal festival and the best of the best.
- Organization & Logistics: how smooth the festival runs how clear it is to get there or get help, etcetera.
- Venue: the actual place where we dance: floor, ventilation, how crowded it is.
- DJs & Lineup: I prioritize dancers lineup over artists lineup.
- Location: as how to get to the venue from the airport/train station
- Price: if it’s worth mentioning.
Of course there are a lot of «profiles» when you are a dancer in a festival. If you want to know more about me and what kind of dancing I do, click here. In summary, I am a dancer who enjoys social dancing the most and festivals are the most suitable stages to meet the best of the best in social dancing. As such, my priorities when I am on a festival are as follow:
- Beach/afternoon parties
- Night parties
- Private classes
- Sleep & Eat
- Video shooting/social media
- Tourism
- Festival Classes
- Shows
This usually means that if the day has only 24 hours, after the 3 first items I need 6/7 hours of sleep , and if I don’t have time to do any of the next ones, I will skip them. For some festivals these priorities may change depending on the general mood (Benidorm salsa festival regular classes are top and afternoon parties are practically non-existant, for example, or if I travel outside Europe or a country I haven’t visited, tourism priority goes up).
